Can you sustain a carpal tunnel injury from being handcuffed too long?

Will these symptoms resolve in time or can such an injury result in long-term (or permanent) nerve damage?

Handcuffs will not give you carpal tunnel. I have never heard of handcuffs causing permanent damage. I was incarcerated for years, and transported many many many times.

Carpal tunnel is a result of repetitive movement of the wrists. Common in Hairstylists who do the same motion over and over.
