When you start him on dry food, try mixing canned food in with it. Gradually decrease the amount of canned food you give him until he's down to no canned food. Good for you because dry food is much better for a dog anyway.

First, you need to mix in some dry food with the canned food. About 1/2 & 1/2 for a day or two, if his bowel movements are normal, mix more dry than moist...for a week.
If he is being finicky, try mixing the dry food with a little peanut butter for a day.
Then he should eat the dry, no problem.
If he refuses to eat, do not give him any choice, don't give treats, don't mix the food in. the dog will NEVER starve itself.
All you want to do is make sure that his system can handle the food you choose to give him.
He'll be fine. Whenever you change foods, always mix in the old w/new first.

Show him that you are putting soft food into the dry food (but only put a small amount in. Mix it together. The dog will want to eat all of it so he will eat the dry food as well. Give him a treat each time he eats dry food. Each week put in less and less soft food until there is none left. The dog will now be trained that eating dry food is a very good thing.

My schnoodle would only eat canned food. Instead of giving him a full can however many times a day you give it to him, only give him half a can at each meal and put dry food underneath the wet food. As the days go on give him more little and little and soon he will realize that he has to eat the dry food. Thats all my pup eats now unless we give it to him as a treat.

Buy both... but put mostly dry in the bowl.

Put in dry, then pour a little of the canned over it, cover can in aluminium foil and save for next time. With a smaller breed dog you probably would only need to buy one can a week.

Wean off by starting to add dry food mixed in with the canned food. little by little add more dry food. eventually eliminate the canned food all together. if this doesnt work, go cold turkey and Stop feeding the dog caned food completely. eventually the dog will eat the dried food. self presurvation kicks in and the dog will eat.

Leave dry out for him and start cutting back on the canned. Eventually get it down wot a small bit once a week as a treat. You may think he is starving but he won't starve. Food drive is inate in all animals.

mix the 2 together using just about half of the soft food that you would use normally and then reduce the amount you put in every week. your dog probably will not seem to happy but its best for him.
