On the North West coast of Italy, close to the French border, you will find Monte Carlo. As you move down the coast into Italy, you come across the Italian Riviera, Bordaghera, San Remo, etc. All part of the Liguria region. It is quite a beautiful stretch of seaside, little sand on the beaches, but there is a very big programme to try to reclaim the sand with breakwaters on the Mediterranean. The areas I have mentioned are beautiful and great for a base, for when it gets too warm (hot) in Summer, you can take a drive up into the hills where you will find beautiful scenery beyond compare. Seborga, Apricale, Perinaldo, Dolceaqua are just a few beautiful spots - I find it hard to describe, some hilltops the last riverside. All beautiful and very welcoming. Most of the young people have moved to the resorts whilst these places are run and lived in by wonderful older generation Italian people. Their food is fantastic if you are lucky to get an invite with homemade products, cheeses, olives, preserved mushrooms and tomatoes, and a hundred and one other beautiful things that makes eating out with them a wonderful memorable experience. I go back each year to help with the Olive harvest and they treat me like a long lost son............. Wonderful memories.
