Not at all. There are things you want to take into consideration. A lot of bartenders are young becuse they are in school and it is a way to make real good money and have days free for classes, but (speaking as a former bar manager) they usually are just as much trouble as they they are good. Certian bars will appreciate an older bartender, you usually aren't drunk or high all the time, and you actually NEED your job. A couple of types of bars that make bring in lots of money are the College- Club types. Real busy and college kids are usually good tippers. You may want to look into the nice lounge-in-a-restaurant type, still can be good money because the drinks are higher priced and you may also earn a decent hourly wage, but may not have great tips. I would hone your skills either way. If you go for the fast paced younger environment, learn speed and be prepared to be sweaty and sticky at the end of a shift. If you go for a more upscale environment, learn more complex drinks and be a good talker.

I work in a restaurant called smokey bones and we focus alot on our bar along with our bbq foods, and we have one bartender that is 35 and he started when he was 30 actually. He has the best sense of humor and the greatest personality! So hey if you go what it takes to do it then go for it! I think the older you are the better you get! Good luck and hope all the best to you!

I don't think that 30 is too old. You are mature in your thinking and can make a wise decision if need be....such as: maybe a customer should be turned down for receiving any more alcohol ...saves a DUI or even someone's life. At 30 you are just now becoming at an age to make better career choices.

I'm sure that you'll be able to find part time work. I don't think 30 is too old but it may be a little more difficult. A lot of bars and clubs are looking to hire pretty young women.

Nope, not at all too young. Just so you can keep up to the 21-25 yr olds. If you have the energy, go right ahead and make some ca$h.

No if being a bartender is what you want to do. My grandfather loved that job more than any he did before and that's what he did until the day he died.

30? You can be 60 or older and be a great bartender. Age doesn't matter, it's your personality and skills that matter.

If anything, I would think 30 would be about the right age: Still young, but old enough to have gotten rid of the 'adolescent jitters', so to speak.
Good luck!
