Why not call a few places and find out? The answer in NYC may be longer than the answer in Cheyenne, you know?

I would schedule it as much in advance as possibly, at least 6 months or more so you can go in for tasting samples and everything else.
I was lucky - my husband was a pastry chef and he made our wedding cake. I told him he could design it anyway he wanted, because I knew he would make it a masterpiece. It was 5-tiers and simply gorgeous. The only thing is, I never got to do a tasting!! It turned out to be layers of chocolate mousse -- my favorite. :) I've got a great hubby :)

Generally about 4-6 months before the wedding. This can vary depending on where you live, and whether the particular cake designer is in high demand.

The sooner the better. If you have a paticular bake shop or pastry chef that you would like to hire then you should hire them right away. Otherwise, you can typically find someone (a grocery store chain, local pastry shop) to make your cake with as little as 3-4 weeks notice.
It all depends on your location and how particular you are about your cake's design & flavor.

you should order you wedding cake with in 4to6 months before you're wedding. But it all depends on where you live and how busy the bakery is during the time of year that you're getting married.Like if you're getting married in the summer around June then there really busy.but if you're planing on getting married sometime in the fall around Thanksgiving may not be that busy.but don't order a wedding cake when the bakery is at its busiest time of the year. good luck

Everything should be done as far in advance as possible. Talk to whomever you want to do your wedding cake and see how much notice is necessary.
Good luck on your wedding.

I would contact the bakery of your choice as soon as possible and ask them. It depends on the time of year and the popularity of the bakery. I used a private individual who does beautiful work, but she was floored that I wanted to book her 8 months in advance! Some large bakeries that do a lot of wedding work books a year ahead.

It all depends...are you going somewher e that gets alot of business? If so I would atleast 6 months before if not more. If it is a place that doesn't get a whole lot of customers I would like 3-4 months before. Just be safe ......the earlier you go the better the chance they can fit you in.

I say 4-8 months because you want to allow enough time to taste test and to compare prices.
