Heyhey! I'm a bio-engineer, but still studying suplementary masters. At my faculty in Belgium (KULeuven) we have Bio engineers in biotech, in chemistry (my case), in Environmental science and in Forrestry, land management, plant production, ...

1) join IAAS! http://www.iaasworld.org

2) I know quite some bio-engineers in env. science. It is interesting. We had the same courses till the 3th year (soil science and that kind of stuff) so if you like it, go for it.

3) it is quite research based. Most of the people from my year who were in env. science, are doing a PhD now. It is not so easy to get a project approved by the government, but most of the people seem to be happy.

4) Of those who are doing a job right know, almost nobody is really involved in their core-specialisation. But fortunately these people have a very polyvalent background.

5) I'm doing an MBA right know and I have to say that I have far more job offers now than with my bio-engineering degree. Me personally, I don't want to do a PhD because it doesn't attracts me to focus my whole life on a color of an apple.

6) Study what you find that is interesting!
In Belgium at least, bio-engineering is extremely interesting. But it is not easy. You require an enourmous background. And if, then, you whish to do something economical like I did, I can tell you , that is a piece of cake. Really!
Live your lifeµ
And if you like international experience, join IAAS...
