You can make a report at any time in the United States. Whether anything will come of that report is entirely another matter.
Most schools handle such things internally with a school liaison officer.

Not only would I file a police report, i'd ask serious questions about why the school didn't feel the need to report it.
Ask Columbus Mayor Mike Coleman about that. An incident happened in a Columbus school, but the school decided that the police do not need to be called. This was a sexual assault and not a regular assault. The whole situation got pretty nasty and eventually questions began to rise as to why the Mayor isn't helping look for justice for the girl who was molested. That's where we get the famous "Don't question my manhood" statement from.
A similar incident happened in Colorado. A mentally handicapped girl was raped and the school didn't want to file charges against the kid that did it because they put him in charge of her. BTW, he has no training in dealing with mentally handicapped individuals, he was just another kid at the school. The school's lawyers actually said it was good for the girl because she probably enjoyed it. Again, the mayor refused to seek justice for that girl... until it came to election time. But it was too late, his bid for a seat on the senate was dashed.
So I say, Hell yes file a report. And make sure something gets done. If it turns out that it was just horseplay and an accident, fine. Accidents happen, but what if it was a fight and the school knew the kids didn't like each other and didn't take steps to insure that nothing like that happened?

What would be the point of a police report?
There would be no point. Get past your resentment and care for your child. If the point is reimbursement, you can think about suing someone (though it is unlikely you will get far with that), but filing a police report won't help you with a suit.
Remember that serious accidents can occur and still be accidents, and that the degree of damage is no evidence that a crime was committed -- or even a wrong.

It depends on how old the children are and how great the injury was to the child who go injured. You could go to the school board during parent night or go by the school board office and speak with someone there. Its one thing to horseplay but another to just keep picking. Its called harrassment and you can do something about it.

Horseplay is just that horseplay-- you crossed the line when another child is hurt so badly that they need surgery-- Oh yea make a report -- I think that the school is afraid that they will be held liable -- and they just might be?

id say sue for medical money because if he needed surgury and care then it would probably cost alot and it doesn't matter wat the school says this child seriosuly injured another kid u shoulod've had the police there when he got hurt or at least the school should've called an ambulance they should've made a report of the injories u can take to the police. i dont tihnk it matters to have the other child get a record becuase it becomes sealed when hes 18 i think suein the parents for damages is a better effect

If you want medical and other bills paid try small claims court. I don't know the rime limit. Keep all your evidence and records. If it's over a certain amount you might have to get a lawyer....call court clerk and find out at your county courthouse. The parents are responsible and the school should have done something!!! Do what you have to do!

certainly you can make a police report. at any time. time limit is for pressing charges - not sure what that time limit would be. but regardless, you can still sue to get compensation in small claims court. great thing about small claims court is you don't have to actually have any evidence to win. not sure if you should sue the school or the parents - try them both.

Your best bet would be to get reports from the teachers involved. The pusher's parents are in most cases responsible for paying any medical costs.

If it was horseplay, why would you want to bother the cops with it. If you want compensation, you can demand $$$ from the pusher's parents and/or the school.
