The uniform khaki bottoms, navy blue or white polos

I think it would be a great idea. I grew up in England where almost every school has a uniform. It is easier for parents, it is better to reduce gang colors etc, and kids don't end up wasting a fortune on designer clothing.

I do think though that a uniform should be something simple like a polo shirt with a school logo on, and some dark pants. Nothing over the top.

I do not agree with those who talk about expressing themselves or individuality. School is not a fashion parade, and not having uniform only creates division within schools. Groups build up and dress a certain way. Poor people get victimized because they wear cheap clothes. Students need to learn to conform, as they will later have to in the work place. It's not like students don't have all afternoon, evening and weekend along with weeks of vacation to 'express themselves.'

When I was in high school I would have said no, but after really looking at how the kids dress these days and the problems teachers are having because of it, I have now changed my mind. I've known two male teachers who have been severely reprimanded for the way their students dress. One incident involved a 14 yr. old girl who was wearing a tight little t-shirt that read "SEXY" across her chest in sparkling red letters and the teacher saw it and read it, the girl went to the office to file sexual harrassment. A similar situation happened when a seventeen year old girl had her thong show above the top of her pants and my friend asked her to cover up. Too many of these incidents are happening.

I see both sides to this.

1. Yes, because it would eliminate criticism of other people's clothing, because of them being poor and not being able to afford the popular brands that all the kids are wearing. It would eliminate having to go shopping and spend hundreds of dollars on clothes that your kid will only wear for one year, and it will get rid of stereotypes based on clothing... like prep, goth, and others. It will get rid of the girls who wear revealing clothing that breaks the dress code rules. That was a huge problem in my school, girls wearing revealing clothing and chains and things on other students.

2. No, because kids should be free to wear whatever they want, school takes up so much of their lives and wearing whatever clothes they want is the only freedom they have.

Hell no! Students should be able to express their indivisuality through clothing and stuff. I think there should be some limits on clothing choices such as, nothing skanky, suggestive, or too revealing. At my school, you can't even dye your hair any unnatural colors, which I find unfare. Schools and adults in general are giant hypocrites. They tell us to be our own person, not to follow crowds and to express ourselves, but when we try, we just get in trouble.

I don't think so. Expressing myself is important to me and clothes are a good way of doing it. If I couldn't express myself through my clothing at school, I think it would take away from my individuality.

No, kids need to be able to express themselves and not all be the same.
