Just doing a follow-up on a response I saw. I thought most Americans, regardless of party, were pretty united on their stance against illegal immigration with obviously more Democrats supporting illegal/open immigration because of their liberal tenets. I thought the leaders of both parties were doing nothing on the issue first because they are trying to gain favor with the emerging powerful Hispanic/Latino voting bloc and, then, more importantly, because both parties are lead by the very wealthy elite (which multi-millionaire/billionaire did you support in the last Presidential election?) that benefit the most from the cheap labor provided by illegal immigrants. Am I wrong on any, none or all of these points? Please respond with your views on the immigration issue and please include your political preference if you would- I'm just kind of curiously doing a poll. I'll start by saying I'm an independent (my ballot is often split) but opposed to unrestricted/open/illegal immigration.

Bellita you are correct that Mexico IS a beautiful country and I do enjoy visiting there and Mexican culture; I also understand people are looking for a better life in the US. Just like any country, Mexico is ruled by the wealthy and politically powerful elite; their elite finds these people a burden and encourages/forces them to leave and our elite welcome them as a source of cheap labor to exploit for their benefit. As for the "average" American, they see unfair job competition and other ecomonic impacts which affect them, along with security, cultural issues, etc. and as much as they "feel" for these people ask why it is their responsibility to provide them with the standard of living they should be enjoying in Mexico if not for the actions of the wealthy/powerful elite in both countries that are seemingly manipulating this situation and their "average" citizens for their own benefit.

ok, I am Mexican American. I was born here Chicago, Illinois and My parents were born in Mexico....I honestly don't think it's only Republican Leaders that oppose illigal immigration.. What I feel is that Mexico is a beutiful country it has silver, oil and other fine minerals... Why doesn't that government make it a better place for it's people... Why?Because they rather steal and take anything it can....That's why people come to the United States of America. If Mexico was like America I know those illigal immigrants would not want to cross the border...

I am opposed to unrestricted immigration, as I am to the guest worker program. I am a democrat (although I vote how I see fit, not always for a democrat). I believe you are correct about not upsetting the Hispanic voters being a reason this issue is being avoided as much as possible. I believe the majority of Americans don't want guest worker programs or open immigration. Once again, the politicians are not listening to America!

Actually the President is favoring a guest worker scenario. I have to break with him on this. Illegals need to go, unless they are working with a legal ssn and are paying taxes and actually contributing to the economy, then and only then can they qualify for a guest worker status. The ones that we are supporting need to be shipped out.
