In Indian tradition day starts with sun rise. So the festive days are celebrated accordingly.
Its 16 nth. As the sun will rise in Ashtami. So that will count as Janmashtami.
Smarths celebrate it the day it starts. So if you are Vaishnav its 16 , if you are Smarth its 15th.

this time sri krishna janamashti is falling on both 15th and 16th aug. infact cerestial positions r such that its half 15th and half 16th. but if u wish 2 keep d fast then its 16th aug. this is a confirmed report. well if u want 2 know exact time and date of janamashtmi of ur area. chk this site
