I understand the body heat will be higher therefore you sweat more because your body is trying to cool off faster. Now is this an effective way to burn more calories? Or the calories are totally independent of body heat? I wonder if there is a relationship of temperature vs. calories burned... I know one loses a lot of water therefore you can seem to lose weight, but does it actually burn more calories?

I've always wodered about this... any clues!?

There is a thermogenic effect that would burn more calories then you typically would if you were just wearing shorts and a T-shirt. But this effect would be minimal and you would just lose water weight that you would gain back as soon as you started to hydrate yourself again. You see people doing this before fighting or wrestling weigh-in's to lose a couple of pounds in water to make weight. It just doesn't give you long term results.

If you are really going for long term weight loss you need to focus on your diet and working out. A well rounded regular workout program that included weight lifting and cardio training would lead to better results.

You won't actually burn more calories right away, but you'll get dehydrated faster.

Eating some sort of spicy food (like with cayenne pepper) has been shown to raise metalbolism SLIGHTLY and you burn a calorie or two more. Same with drinking REALLY cold water because your body needs to work to raise the temp of the water.

How much you sweat has nothing to do with how many calories you burn. You need to replace those lost fluids anyways or you'll be dehydrated and workout less. I recommend keeping as cool as possible and as comfortable as possible because when you're really hot, you feel less like doing it. The calories you burn go by how hard your heart is working and how much work you're doing. If you feel your heart and it's beating very hard, you're burning more calories than if you don't feel your heart beating much at all.

You will not loose more weight. You will loose body fluid.
In the heat we are having this summer, that could be dangerous.
Use common sense and eat right, workout and the weight will come off. Don't forget to drink water, plenty of it.
