I really want another dog this spring. How do I convince my mom to let me be a dog walker on weekends.

It's always the same answer - the one you don't want to hear. To be treated more like an adult, you must act more like an adult first.

Show your mother how responsible you can be. Do your chores without being asked. Ask to do extra chores. Don't complain and whine when you don't get your way. If you have younger siblings, play with them and help take care of them whenever you get a chance.

Basically, look for ways to act like an adult, and you'll be treated like one. Even if your mom doesn't want you walking dogs, she'll probably let you find some kind of job where you can make some money. Be willing to compromise (that's another adult thing).

That's like ... two questions. Maybe she is linking you making some money with you getting a dog.
If your mom doesn't want you to have a dog ---- it's because she doesn't want the household to have a dog. And there are reasons for that. Dogs can be a big expense ---- food, vet bill, flea prevention, etc. Then there are pet problems ---- cleaning up, barking, possible problems with neighbors, chewing up stuff, going away for extended periods and finding someone to take care of it. A twelve year old is not ready to own a dog unless the parents are willing to share responsibility because a lot of the responsibility will eventually fall on them anyways.

As far as walking or caring for a dog --- that shouldn't be a problem if you are responsible. Maybe you can sorta "adopt" someone elses dog without the burden of ownership.

Try it.

Well ... Being a mother myself, I would want you to show and prove that its a responsiblity you can handle. Having 1 dog is alot of work ( but the payoff is amazing isnt it!) I'm not sure what your current chores are, but helping with your current dog is a start. Help with feeding and cleaning up the mess in the yard. I think your mom probably wants to be assured your not doing this JUST to get another dog. You also have to think of your clients, what becomes of their dogs once you get another? Are you only going to walk them until you get your other one? Maybe these are some of the things your mom is thinking about. Good Luck!!

You can do simple things to get some trust and respect. Wash the car, vacuum the carpet, mop the floor, wipe the dust off T.V. and appliances. These chores can get you some money and show that you are a responsible mature person.

Dogs are high maintenance pets, they need to be walked, washed, fed, and cared for. My dog just died because we left her out in the hot sun. Be very careful and pay attention.

be responsible.... AND PLLLLEEEAAAASE adopt a poor (just as cute) puppy or dog from a shelter! they have no homes unlike the ones at pet shops. also, dog-sit for some dogs to prove you are able to have a dog and take care of it. oh, and adopting costs $0.00!
