I'm looking for a 26 inch mountain/hybrid bike that won't break my budget. Any suggestions for brick and mortar merchants to shop in the Metro DC area would be fantastic!

First of all a 200 dollar budget will mean a trip to Wal-Mart, the bikes Wal-Mart sells are good for kids," Wal-Mart keeps their bicycles in the toy department that should tell you something about Wal-Mart bikes ". Your other choice is eBay. I don't recommend Department store bicycles for one reason; There are only two kinds of people that work at department stores, 1. people who put up stock, 2. people who run the check-out line. First go to a bike shop, they usually have shop quality trade-in bikes for sale, and just might have what your looking for, with in your budget. Bicycle Shops sell bikes, and cycling accessories only, not everything from caned goods, to house paint. The people who own Bicycle Shops know bicycles, and can fit you to a bicycle that fits you, not try to fit you to a bicycle that will fit people who range in size from 5ft.5in. to people who are 6ft.9in. And make," NO MISTAKE ABOUT IT ", If the bike you get is the wrong size you won't ride it for very long, period. In fact the wrong size bike can be dangerous. So look in your phone book find a bike shop, visit a bike shop, talk to the people there, tell them how much money you have to spend on your bike, and they'll fix you up with a bike that fits you.

Go to craigslist.org and buy a bike from somebody that needs the $ and isn't riding . You will find quality used @ this price. Trek, Cannondale, Specialized ect. Any bike new @ that price is not worth owning imho!
