State police Major Steven O'Donnell says Trooper Thomas Chabot acted appropriately by asking the immigrants for identification and then calling immigration officers when they couldn't produce it.

But the immigrants say they were threatened with death if they tried to escape during a July 11th traffic stop in Richmond. The men, Carlos Tamuc and Gilfredo Camellar, admit they came to the United States illegally from Guatemala.

This is the second incident in recent months in which immigrants have accused police of harassment. Immigrants living in Newport said last month that police there harassed them with warrantless searches and threats.

What's next? It won't be long before our law enforcement is dragged into court and we are handing ILLEGAL CRIMINAL INVADERS, more of our hard earned money!!!!

YOU ARE HERE ILLEGALLY!!!

Law Enforcement Is Not Harassment
Nor Racism

These LAW ENFORCEMENT Officers/Agents
Are Doing Their Jobs
ENFORCING The LAW

To Call It Harrassment
Or Racism
Would Be Tantamount To
Obstruction Of Justice

the ILLEGAL ALIENs say
they were threatened with death
if they tried to escape

I'd Say To Them That They Were Lucky
That They Got Caught By The Good Guys

They Should Accept DEPORTATION Thankfully
And Remember
Next Time You Might Not Get So Lucky

Unwarranted searches? There is such a thing as probable cause. If he asks for ID, and the man cannot produce any, and doesn't speak very good English, that is probable cause. I highly doubt that they were threatened or searched illegally. Regardless of whether the officer acted appropriately or not, they should still be deported, and if it is found that the officer did act inappropriately, he should be dealt with as well.

Thank goodness he has backing. If they would become legal immigrants they wouldn't have to worry about being harassed.

unless he caused physical harm to the guys.... I don't think he did anything wrong.... if you don't have ID, you should be taken to the police station if you were being rude or roudy, or fined and present it withing 24 hr, depending on the situation.....
we don't know the circumstances surrounding this case....
irregardless.... y do they think that they are not subject to our laws.... you must drive w/ ID.... simple.... no ID... stay home.... if the officer believes you are here illegally, he may call immigration.....

They seem to think they should be immune to the law. It is harrassing them if you enforce the law. And there are plenty of people in this country that seem to agree with them. We need to get the whole situation under control and stop pandering to them.

They are up in arms when police ask them to prove they are here legally. They think the police shouldn't enforce our laws.

A bit weird, if you ask me.

So one crime deserves another is what you are saying? It doesnt matter what the other person did, if the police officer does not obey the law that he is sworn to uphold. I agree that coming into the US illegally is a crime. But if the cop threatened to kill them or performed unwarranted searches, they he is a criminal as well. I do not want a criminal with that much power! That is what we call corruption.

I don't think that illegals have the right to press charges. If they can ignore our rules by sneaking in, we can ignore our rules too and harass them. Geez, it's not like the cop beat them senseless or anything.

regardless of what the trooper may or may not have done, people who are here illegally don't have any rights in our legal system.
