My 5 year old bull terrier also pees when he is in a deep sleep. Also checked by our vet and they think that he just goes into a very deep sleep and doesn't realize what he is doing until it happens. I use a "Doggie diaper" that I got a pet store. It works great.

It's probably just spay incontinence, it can happen at any age but usually as a dog gets older. My yellow lab has the same thing and i just put puppy pads in areas where she sleeps for her to lay on. Vet said we could control the problem with hormones, but at her age (she was about 6 at the time) I didn't want to start the hormone treatment since they are not good for the other organs.

okay, it is common for older females to get incontinent. I'm surprised your vet didn't recommend a med to help her control herself. I would find a different vet. Female incontinence can usually be controlled with meds. They also make doggie diapers that work well. Thank you for not scolding her, it's not her fault.

Uh oh, sounds like she's maybe getting doggie dementia. My mom had the same problem for a while before she died. Good thing its only urine with your pet, bless her heart. If its 7 dog years for every human year, she is a very old lady dog. Since you love her and probably don't want to put her to sleep, I would suggest doggie "depends". if she will put up with them, that is. Keep checking with your vet. Good luck with her.

Your dog is getting older and having typical bladder control problems. Your vet simply needs to prescribe Pro-In for your dog and that will help control the problem.

Possibly dementia, and this may be the first indication in her. Other signs which may come later is walking around aimlessly, disorientation, getting caught between objects (ex. furniture and wall) and not being able to find her way out like she used to do.

Doggie diapers.
They are usually for dogs in heat...but they work well with incontinence issues.
Best wishes!

Well, 12 years is pretty old for any animal. It's just her body slowly shutting down with age.

There are medicines to help with this. Ask your vet about them. It has to do with her hormones. If your vet can't help you with it go to another vet and tell them what you have said here. There is help for her. Good luck.
