about $150
for the DNA test done you can send away for on the internet.

Basically they will ask for a cell sample. Like maybe a cheek swab that then goes in a special gel to preserve it while it gets shipped back to the lab.

The cells basically get broken up, and the DNA is extracted and multiplied by a polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Unil there is enough DNA material to perform the test with.

The DNA is cut with "Restriction enzymes" that cut the DNA at precictable places, so the DNA is broken into different sized peices.

The Child's DNA and the Dad's DNA are put into separate "wells" (little holes) into a gell like sheet. And a current is applied. This is called Elecrophoresis.

The DNA has a negitive charge, and moves slowly towards the Positivly charged opocite end. The Gel acts like a 3D net and "catches" the peices of DNA as they attempt to move through it.

After just the right amount of time has passed the current is shut off. (The shortest DNA fragments are abled to travel the furthest through the gel since they get "caught" less. ) The gel has a dye applied to it, and is washed to remove the excess. The dye only sticks to the DNA.

Now when you look at the gel you see a series of distinc lines/ bands. The Fathers and childs bands are compared. If a certain number of bands "line up" then they can say with a high certainty that the child is a blood realitive. If they also compare the Mother's DNA The Child's DNA lines should all line up with bands from either the Mother or presumed father.

The gel elctrophoresis process is the same way the match criminals to scenes of crime where they have "DNA evidence".

Around $300. For the last 17-years, I've advise all unmarried men to get a paternity test when they are named a father, regardless of how long the relationship. These days, it is even necessary for married men. The fact is, once he begins supporting the child, especially paying child support, than learns later that he is not the father, he cannot stop paying. Only two states allow paternity test to be done after support has begun, Maryland and Illinois. In every other state, he has to pay, unless the mother releases the obligation, but only if she's not on welfare. Under these circumstances, the only way to get it stopped is to go after custody, at which time the courts will allow a paternity test to be done to show that he has not right to have custody to the child. Only Pennsylvania allows a non-paternal father to get custody.

You can get a court order for one and then he will have to pay to entire cost for it. Go to your county Friend of the Court and file for child support. If he doesnt concede to the child being his or does not sign the birth certificate, then he will be ordered to take the paternity test. Just to add some info, you wont be able to get the test done until after the child is born, and its usually done with a cheek swab of you, baby, and prospective father.

You don't need a DNA test. A simple blood test for Paternity can prove he is the father with up to 99.9% accuracy. These tests are accepted by all the courts when establishing paternity for child support.

Go to the child support enforcement division at your local courthouse. They will establish paternity for free. HOWEVER, in most states, if you and he are not married, and he signed the affidavit of paternity at birth, he is the father, and only had 30 or 60 days after signing to question UNLESS he can provide good reasoning to now question the fact. Good Luck!

If you go to court and try to get child support from him, the judge will order a paternity test and it will cost the dad because he will have to prove its NOT his. I know that from experience

You can get a paternity test for a few hundred dollars. The man and the child need to be tested.

I don't think it would cost you anything if you contacted family services agency in your area. They will serve the father and prove paternity if there is a concern when they set up child support payments. If you are still with him, my prayers are with you =)

it's a shame that in our society we have to deal with not only with the pressure of being the perfect parent now we have to deal with our men accusing us of sleeping around. Even though they know we've only been with them.
If you go to court you may be able to get it free if you're income qualified. Good luck and tell him to watch more informative tv. Maybe something like TLC birthing moments or something so he can see how difficult and rewarding it will be to be a parent.
