Your question is under the heading of "etiquette" so don't you think spelling is important ?
Seriously, the younger generation is killing the English language with the way they spell and the way they talk. Don't pretend to be all grown up and mature and then spell as if you never got out of 5th grade. Adults are not impressed with this garbage, so if you really want an honest conversation or reply, just spell it out like a respectable person and you will be respected much more.

I only try to correct their spelling if I can't understand what the person is saying. But even then, it's just a guess.
Others probably get annoyed because bad spelling can still be difficult to understand. And considering the fact that there's a spell checker, it might come across as rude when someone doesn't check their spelling. Here's a simple solution. If you don't want people to correct you when you misspell a word, use the spell checker. It'll save you a lot of frustration.

Because, most of these people admit to being 5 to 6 years older than me (and on up) and they still can't spell for beans, let alone form regular words or comprehensive thoughts. That's why. It's a little thing called education... I heard it's good for you.

It's their opportunity to be RUDE.
Display of superiority so that you feel stupid and they are hoping you will cry and they will break your personality ... typical bully-behavior. (Giggle)
BTW - 1.) the "Check Spelling" seems to work on every other piece I do" --- I'll hit the spelling button, and it will just keepsearching, so I have to "submit" to stop the non-existant spelling ... 2) Once I post a question, I cannot go and "Edit" like I can an answer ... 3) The "Additional Comments" for the question asked does not have a "Check spelling" available.

It's just idiots who can't answer the question directly so they pick on the details. I have heard of English professor from College tell me that when she goes online, sometimes even her, didn't pay attention to these spellings. People do alot of writing on the internet in the chatrooms, blogs, and etc. If they have to check for spellings everyminute in the chatroom, the conversation might be over already. Sometimes, I like to read different opinions from different writers, not just the one that can spell.

I don't doit personally, but I can understand why others do. It's really annoying when people can't seem to take the time to make sure they're even using correct grammar. What were all of your years spent in school for, and what are we teaching our children, that's it's ok to be mediocre?

Sometimes by the spelling, many take the question out of context. Besides, it is better to know how to spell better. It shows that the question you are asking can be more viable. (not always)

Because spelling something incorrectly can make you look ignorant. And those of us who are sticklers for spelling hate to see things misspelled. It's like being a fashion expert and seeing people who can't dress - just plain annoying. Plus you can help yourself at work, school, whatever, by using proper spelling and grammar.

It makes the asker look dumb and grates on most people's nerves since they learned how to spell and to care about the appearance of anything they write.
There is a spelling checker built-in. If you just click it you can have it fix any error you made. I guess that makes some askers lazy as well as stupid.
