Definitely.

For those who don't know, tomorrow (Aug. 15) is the Catholic feast day of Mary's Assumption into Heaven.

The Church teaches that Mary was fully assumed into Heaven, body and soul, "at the end of her earthly life" according to Pope Pius XII, who formally defined the doctrine in 1950.

Though the doctrine was defined relatively recently, it has been believed by Catholics for pretty much the entirety of Christian history.

Part of the reason is this: in the earliest days of Christianity, it was common (even automatic) to venerate the "relics" (remains, typically bones) of saints and of those martyred for the faith.

Cities often vied with each other to be the final earthly resting place of these saints and martyrs.

Yet, there is no record of Mary having ever been buried anywhere.

True, Mary's Assumption is not mentioned in the Bible -- but it is not at all contrary to the Bible. It's one of the few Catholic doctrines that's not in the Bible, in fact.

Twice.

I am glad that someone else here knows.

We are celebrating Mary's assumption into Heaven!

That does NOT mean worshiping her!

Peace!
