I was interested in the Toyota Rav 4...but haven't been reading very good reviews. Subaru is my next choice...

Do you own an outback or legacy? Have you enjoyed owning on? Any regrets?

Subarus are great cars. They last a long time, don't seem to have that many problems, are speedy. Some of the Outback models have absolutely tiny backseats so if you have alot of people you will be regularly transporting may want to look at that.

I have a 1995 Legacy wagon and 2003 Legacy sedan. The quality is very good but I'm disappointed the drivability of my 2003 sedan. It has little low-end power and the car is very jerky to drive at around-the-neighborhood speeds. The dealer said, "They're all like that," and brushed me off. I've rented a 2005 Outback that also had some of this jerky driving quality but not as bad as my 2003. I test drove a 2006 Impreza, which definitely had this jerkiness.

Other than this problem (which is a significant problem in my mind), the rest of my 2003 Legacy is terrific. It is comfortable and handles like a sports sedan. The brakes are excellent, too. It's very fun to drive on a twisty road but it is awkward at slower speeds in town because of the jerky engine.

Both my cars have manual transmissions, by the way. If you get an automatic, you may never feel the drivability problem I have, although I could feel it some in the 2005 Outback I rented.

I've owned a Legacy. Both my mother and ex-wife own Forresters. Yes. Subaru makes very good cars.

They get lousy gas mileage, about 25 mpg all the time.

There is aproblem with the 1997 - 2003 or so 2.5 liter engine blowing head gaskets.

Go to www.ultimatesubaru.net and check the postings and ask questions in the NeW Generation section.
