I start jogging this past week as an alternate form of exercise besides weights and my ellipitcal. But i was woundering, how long does it take before your ribs stop hurting? And is there anything i can do to help the sideache? I dont overdue myself, i'm following a fitness program that takes 14 weeks, and you start out by walk jog intervals, and you incress the jogging time and decrease the walking time over 14 weeks. I'm in good health and everything, i guess i was just woundering about the sideache. Thanks.

Its actually from not being properly hydrated before jogging. Some people think that water before exercise causes cramps but its actually dehydration. When you drink fluids before exercise make sure they are very cold, your body will absorb it a lot quicker. When you drink warmer fluids your body takes longer to absorb the water and then when you start exercising the water isn't absorbed yet causing cramps from muscle dehydration.

I have a fitness plan that involves walk and jogging. I overcame the cramps by making sure that I am hydrated. I fine that the less water I have drank the more sever my cramps were and I would end up walking more. But if I would have at least 16 oz of water b4 I went out to exercise, I would not cramp, or if I did they would subside easily and quickly. Hope this helps!

Just adjust your program to your own needs. The side ache will go away with time maybe your body is just taking a bit longer to adapt to the routine. Stick with what you can do and move up to teh next level at you own pace. So what if it takes you 16 weeks instead of 14? The important thing is that you're doing it! Congratulations!

hm. are you certain you're on the right program for your age, height, and weight? try the next lower "settting". a stitch shouldn't kill you, and will go away, if you persist (over weeks, perhaps), but you may be overdoing it, a bit.
