ok i think i get breakage cuz at night i toss and turn (my hair is thick and it is not wet when i go to bed) at night when im in bed and that makes my hair break, i really rub it against the pillow. i try using a hairtie to tie it back, but NO MATTER WHAT HAIRTIE I USE it always comes out (i never use hair-ties with metal in them) how can i keep my long hair in place? i cant sleep with a hat/cap/anything that really covers my head. i have thick hair, it couldnt really be any thicker

Satin Pillow Case would probably be your best bet. You can usually get them for around 7 dollars.

I have very long, thick, curly hair. One thing I NEVER do is tie it back, if I can help it. Tying it back in any form of hairtie will cause it to break - that's why often times ballerinas have receeding hairlines - from wearing their hair in a bun for too many days/weeks/years. I just loosely lay my hair above my head before going to sleep and let it go. As others have said, you will lose some hair each day, but if it's breaking off, versus falling out, I'd attribute that to the hairtie. Also - don't use a hairbrush. Just wash it in the morning and use a wide tooth comb to get out any tangles, while the hair is wet. Use a good conditioner and a weekly deep conditioner. Never brush dry hair, unless it's very thin, silky, and straight. Good luck!

Never sleep with a pony tail in, that causes even more breakage. When awake, use poly bands to tie it back. Try the satin pillow suggestion, use conditioner, and don't worry too much. That will make it fall out faster.

Maybe you should get some of it cut off, or thinned out....or both! Hair shouldnt be difficult, it should be easy to manage. I have similar problems sort of. My hair isnt as thick as yours, but it can be hard to work with since I havent found a stylist thats really fabulous! But anyway, have your hair done in a way where you can keep it long and get some of the bulk out. Maybe get it straightened? It shouldnt be causing you all this grief! Good luck.

Try sleeping with your hair twisted in a loose bun with a bandanna tied around it. That should be comfortable enough to sleep in, just make sure that you tie the knot ON TOP of the bun, that way you aren't lying on it. I would also advise that you use anti-breakage shampoo and conditioner, Pantene has a good one; so does Loreal. Also try using an anti-breakage serum to strengthen your hair follicles, like Aussie 3-Minute Miracle or Pantene Strengthening mask. Karatese has a REALLY GOOD strengthening mask, but its expensive!!

Use a Satin pillow case, and do a deep conditioning on your hair, everyone is going to loose hair its like exfolating your skin its natural. If this doesn't help then ask whoever does our hair for ideas and tips.

A hairdresser once told me that its normal to lose up to 100 hairs a day. Maybe try & train yourself to get used to a hat or showercap or something?
