Do they assume I have not read it enough to be able to defend myself?

Or that I'll come to the same conclusion they did if I keep reading it?

Do they assume that I don't use a commentary (for literary/histroical perspective)?

Do they assume that my religion doesn't defend my interpretation?

See my questions...

They are purposely open minded questions. Typically designed to make people consider the faith of others and reject judging others.

My feeling is that those who write "read your Bible" instead of answering a question are unable to properly teach from it themselves; so I guess it's a diversionary tactic. I also think it's an unnecessarily harsh answer that solves nothing.

I get that too...I guess when someone thinks that the Bible is perfect in the way they interpret it that they simply can't fathom anyone interpreting it differently.

Unfortunately, in this Q/A format...it's not as easy to ask those people why they wondered if you have read the Bible.

Because most Christians were spoon fed their beliefs and don't know how to think for themselves, the only arguments they have stem back to forcing their beliefs onto people through the Bible.

I'm a Christian btw - but this is my view.

Your questions seem rhetorical in nature. I'd say your guesses are as good as mine. Interesting how instead of trying to explain their rationale to you, they just tell you to go read. I think you've hit the nail on the nead with your questions. I'm going to say "yes" to all of them.

It happens to me too. They mean well... it's not an insult or to insinuate that you don't know this or that... In general if you think something is great, don't you want to share it with the people in your life? Hang in there... it's a long road.

I think they assume you never tried to understand one parable about living a spiritual life under the Lord. I think this is a safe assumption.

Arrogance - they believe.

And they believe you don't.

And they believe they can save another soul.

Because they believe the bible is the answer to everything.
