How long does it take for airlines to actually pay the insurance?
I always insure but their max coverage is not sufficient to cover lost puppy, replacement puppy, duel shipping fees and all other related cost, especially when I ship internationally.
Does the shipper have to pay for the airline medical exam?
I often ship, and so far, I have not had a problem, I read their website on stats about cargo deaths.
They do not post any complaints or follow-ups.

I am the breeder/shipper. I am unable to "hand carry" each puppy as carry on luggage, some I have to ship cargo. They are all small, I raise Chihuahuas.

I also prefer to ship Continental, but at times I HAVE to use other airlines.

When I ship internationally it takes 7 to 9 months because I have all the quarantine procedures done here to prevent the dogs from that awful trama.

I have shipped MANY dogs, but I won't ship internationally until the dog is 4-5 months old..
Domestically. I will ONLY ship Continental, as they take excellent care of the pups..
Once my 3 puppies were flying transcontinent, and had a 14 hour layover, because Houston was flooded.. I was frantic! I needed have not worried.. My pups all arrived safe and happy.. I called Continental to give kudos for delivering my pus happy, clean and safe..They told me that they enjoyed playing with them..there is a nice kennel room in Texas, and they took them all out, played with them and cleaned all cages...They are never without a pet sitter on Continental...
I sure wouldn't know about putting in a claim...I hope I never find out..

I have shipped several puppies but have never had one die. So I don't have a clue on the time. I ship Continental because they keep the animals in air-conditioned vans before and after flights so they don't sit out in hot planes and before they make into the airport. Sorry I wasn't more help. Good luck.

yeah but if they are tiny enough they wont have to go on the cargo part. Also you need to get a written agreement that if they do die then they will replace it wiht another dog. Free of charge. maybe shipping one might be easier. Although it is less traumatizing on the dog if you just get a local one and pick it up.
