Firstly a BIG thank you to all who answered my first question. Well managed to get the Control Panel up (used the flying window thingy - thank you!) Now I went into Menu and Task Bar options in Control Panel, deselected and reselected authohide task bar - now it appears if I point the mouse there but if I use the mouse or move away from the task bar it disappears (very disconcerting) Any advice much appreciated!

right click on your task bar

select PROPERTIES

Uncheck the box that says AUTOHIDE

Click APPLY / OK.

------

ABOUT AUTOHIDE:
If the checkbox is checked, it will go away when your most moves away from it. (it hides automatically for you)

If the checkbox is not checked, it will stay up on top all the time. (it doesn't hide)

ABOUT LOCKING THE TASKBAR:
Locking the task bar only keeps it at the top, bottom, left or right. It sets the permanent location of the task bar. It has nothing to do with it appearing or disappearing.

Autohide is a different concept - it tells it to disappear or stay on top.

in case you may bypass to the "visual charm and matters" area in the administration panel selct the "taskbar and start up menu" command and then tell it to autohide it and push practice. Then ur window will bypass right down to the bottom of the exhibit screen, then deselct autohide and push practice back and the start bar might want to come back, except you've some nasty virus, yet that's got here about on mine some cases lately too, good luck!
