Not much. Most banks now check you credit report and chex system. If your worried about credit issues most banks have special accounts for people with bad credit. Also think about online banking. HSBC has bank accounts that are strictly done over the internet and some have said their standards are a little lower.

Maybe bella_4624_19 is correct they do credit checks now. I been telling people that banks only use telecheck or cheq systems. My local banks have told me this. It been over a year. Some banks may let you have a debit card only account. Other banks may require you to have a savings. I have been get conflicting information on yahoo answer. So the best thing to do is ask the bank--what type of credit check's are done and be honest.

Some banks do check if you are on the "check system" for having bounced checks. If you are on this, then talk to someone at the bank about a "second chance" checking account (Wells Fargo has them) or about getting a savings account. You can still have a debit card with a savings account. You may have to have that account for a while before they are willing to give you a checking account but it will be a start.

Good luck to you.

I have never heard of a bank checking your credit to open an account. Half the people out there probably couldn't have an account if this was true. Go to Wells Fargo.

Banks do not check your credit to open an account. All you have to do is meet the minimum requirements to open an account, such as minimum daily balance.
