I don't think EVERYONE is stereotypical. That is a very stereotypical assumption.

So you noticed: All of us are exposed to the same influences every day of our lives. How can we be so different, unless we rebel against being the same as everyone else. What do you see on TV, What are the visual prompts that you encounter, wherever you go (Ad Signs).
It is called control of the masses. I don't know if you remember, "Pet Rocks", Someone had an idea that he could package a bunch of rocks and make a million dollars. and that is what happened. How about "Pokemon", Every kid who was exposed to the hype, just had to have one, plus accessories. It is all about money and in order to stay rich and in power, Society has been crammed into an image that few people can get free of.
There are not too many individualists left in our society. Self reliance has been ruined, by nanny laws, Fasten your seat belts, or pay a fine. Even that seat belt can kill you.
Be safe, wear a helmet when riding a bike, or you will pay a fine. One young boy was killed because of the insistance that baseball in school required a rigid safety helmet. That lad suffered a broken Trachea and died on the playing field. That was the only case I heard of.
Why are people stereotyped, it is all about money. Some of us resist and we become outcasts and must spend most of our time fighting for what we know is right. Others simply find it easier to find a cause and demonstrate. Sort of a physical manifestation of a useless life.
I hope that answers your question. It is all about money, and the power it brings.

It drives me up a wall literally that people here in Puerto Rico, even some who know me, start trying to see what name they should call me.
I am learning that usually it is innocent; e.g., the other day the guys called me "Viejo" (old guy) while we played basketball since they felt shy about calling me Robert.
It is really tricky in any culture but especially when you are in a different culture.
Go to Tibet, and you will probably miss being called common names since they will think you are totally crazy since our customs are so different.

People may not want to accept it, but there is some truth value in stereotyping. Of course, there is always a basis for this for why you name a particular subject. And It's not as if you just though of something just to ruin somebody.

Nope! Not now, now that I'm a bit more maturer. As a younger girl though I sort of hung with the crowd appearing as one of them to an outside world, but not really doin' what they were doin. I guess that was a need to be the same as the pack that i was with for their approval and acceptance as was. Being older and wiser now I enjoy to be different, outside the square of normal. Cheers!

yes i follow sterotypes. if it looks like a fish, smells like a fish, its probably a fish. if it has a ski mask on, and is robbing a liquor store its probably a black. if it smells, and stares at your girl like hes never seen a girl in his whole life, its probably a mexican, and if it sounds like its got a hole in the exhaust pipe is covered in flags and has reagaton blasting for the world to hear, its probably a puerto ricans car, sterio types dont come from nowhere there is a reason for them. THEY ARE ALL TRUE.

Probably the same reason as why people like to generalize like you just did.
People are ignorant.
