the two main sects in Islam.

Sunni believe that elections should be held for religious leaders

Shii believe that the religious leaders should come from the blood line of the Prophet (pbuh). Shii are the supporters of Ali (pbuh) the 4th Kalifa or leader of Islam after the death of the Prophet (pbuh). He was a cousin of the Prophet (pbuh) and married to his daughter, Fatima.

Two different believes in Islam. Sunnis believe leader should be chosen who the communities votes for. Shias believe that a leader should be a blood descent of Muhammad. Also Shia and Sunnis have different Histories. It all occured a thosands years ago when Muslims disagreed about who should lead the ummah.
their traditions are also different. Shias have introduced new traditions into Islam. Like hitting themselves with chains, chanting, and beating drums because of a battle in history they lost and regret. But we are all Muslims.
