I love fresh halibut. It is a sweet mild flavored fish. When cooked (steamed, grilled, pan-fired) the same day it is caught, it is delectable. More than 3 days in the fridge, or frozen more than 6 months and then thawed, it is a spongy piece of fishy and tasteless mass. Freezing greatly diminishes the texture and flavor. Freshly caught halibut, cook and eat the same day for greatest enjoyment. Frozen and thawed halibut, also cook as soon as possible, to attain at best, an "okay" experience. You can safely cook and eat thawed halibut after 3 days, but it would be nourishment rather than an epicurian experience. More days than that, you can use it in your garden as fertilizer.

My favorite fish dishes: (1) seared Chilean sea bass - it is not really a sea bass -- it is a toothfish that swims near the Antarctica waters, (2) steamed whole Atlantic black sea bass in scallion, ginger and soy sause, (3) grilled yellowfin tuna, (4) steamed catfish nudgets in Chinese-styled black bean sauce, (5) blackened Tilapia -- a Nile perch -- roasted and smoked in a banana leaf; and (6) stir-fried halibut chunks with zucchini, or better still Chinese luffa gourd.

A Halibut may be kept in any fridge for an infinite length of time. That is; until it completely disintegrates. However, you would be wise to eat it within 4 or 5 days. But always do the smell test - if it's a bit wiffy - then I would just chuck it.

Why would you keep it in the fridge ?? keep it in your Stomach !
Or Keep it in the freezer ... ( Make sure you cover it with a foil so it can stay longer )
You can keep it for a week ... after that you can let the cats enjoy it
( Question : Do you have a Fridge big enough to keep a big halibut ?? )

You shouldn't even buy it. That has to be one of the most disgusting fish in the sea...eeewwwww...
But if you do buy it then you can keep in frozen for about 6 months. Thawed and refridgerated for about two days. B/c aside from the smell it may may make you pretty sick...That's with any form of sea food... Halibut eeewwww...

It actually depends on the refrigerator. I have found that since I have a new refrigerator, all food items I put in there are lasting longer than they did in my old refrigerator.
But, back to the fish; I wouldn't keep it longer than 2 days. It wouldn't be bad necessarily after that, but I find that I don't eat the food after its been in there longer than that. It just doesn't look or sound appealing any longer.
So, my final answer is 2 days.

about 4 days, no more, after that give it to the cat or throw away. Fish in the fridge too long tend to take on the flavors of everything else in the fridge. It taste gross after 4 days.

if it is cooked, about 2 to 3 days. if the edges of the fish start to turned a dark yellow, it is time to throw away. if you find yourself making a lot of it and want to keep it for a later time, place the selfovers in a alumium foil then place that in a plastic bag and plae in the freezer. when you decide to eat it again, take out of freezer, thaw out a bit, then place on cookie sheet and bake it in the oven and the flavors in had the first time u cooked it will come out.
