I grew up as a child of a frame and body repair man so I can give you some real advise. Think of it like this... you take it somewhere else and you may get a good job done...or maybe not. you don't know what they do when you arent there watching them so your trusting your car to someone who may be late going home or any number of things. he may skip on something or not do as good a job as he could.... because he knows like you that you'd never know. on the other hand.. your father would probably never cut a corner when it is his child....ever. That's not what fathers do. when he knows your life is in this car when you get into it.... it's who you trust the most. I say father hands down.

Here's the CORRECT answer. If the insurance company has issued a check to you, and it is in your name alone and not made out to both you and "their repair shop", then you can do whatever you wish. My advice is to let Dad do the work...you know he will do a good job and will help you out if there are any issues down the line...plus the saving money part is good also!
Hope this helped.

Have your father fix it. The only good part about using the insurance company's mechanic is because they will guarantee their work, I'm sure your father would be willing to do the same for you.

well if u trust ur father enough and he feels confident that he can fix your car than that is fine. but u got to be aware that problems wil not be noticible to the eye as well. such as sum thing internally goin wront with the drive train. but if its just some minor fabrications repair like a fender or door then go ahead just make sure u don't run out of money tryin to fix it yourself.

You've already got all the money you're going to get from your insurance company, so by all means have your dad fix it.

Is the check in your name alone, or is the repair shop named on the check? If it's just your name, you can have it fixed where ever you'd like.

if your father is a mechanic, then why doubt whether he should do it or not?? You'll be saving money, and that is always a good thing!
