I read this weekend about how the word repentance comes from a greek word which meant a new mind or a change of mind or heart.

How does this fit with your understanding of repentance?

The word, "metanoia," basically means to have a new mind. Here is an example of it's meaning:

"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." - Romans 12:2

In other words, when our mind is renewed, we can understand and apply God's will to our lives.

LOL
To repent you change your ways. What you are saying is I am sorry and I will not do that again!

If you are doing something wrong, say oh going out and getting drunk with your friends. One day you say I'm sorry for doing that, and Friday comes around and you go out and get drunk with your friends. You did not repent!

Now you could say I'm sorry help me Lord to not do that again I truly wish not to do it again.
Friday comes and g I have to work late darn!
Special night comes a big bash and shoot I have to baby sit! (your not kidding) The Lord will create situations to help you out, and you have Repented.

My understanding of repentance is to turn from sin and
turn to God, i.e., a change of heart and mind.
