My cat scratched me pretty bad just below my neck. I'm getting married in a month and really don't want a scar. Plus, I spend a lot of time outside and I've heard the sun makes scars worse. What is the best way to prevent a scar? Neosporin? Just a band-aid? Nothing? Thanks for your help...

Some people scar more than others. It depends on the skin type. Generally people with dark or olive skin will scar more than those with fair skin. Vitamin E when the wound has healed is a good thing to do but you should rub it in at least 3 times a day. Wounds always look worse in the early stages after a few weeks the marks wont be so bad. If you feel the mark is a problem you could wear a necklace to cover the mark. Hope my advise helped and have a lovely wedding, I'm sure this little problem will be forgotten when you see your partner on the day. Cheers!

Be sure you wash the scratch with soap and water. Then let it heal on it's own. No bandaid, no neosporin. By putting a bandaid on it you keep it moist and prone to infection. Soap and water are the best disinfectant duo, despite what you may see on tv. Keep the affected area out of the sun as well. Skin that is healing is more prone to sunburning and then scarring. That's why after plastic surgery they recommend you stay out of the sun until it is healed. Be sure not to scratch at the scabs either! They itch because they're healing.

Just because your cat is indoors doent mean it won't get infected!! Remember, this is an animal that poops in a box and walks all over it and then walks all over your house with poo germs on it's paws. Make sure you clean it very carefully. It can very likely get infected and that would cause a worse scar.. As well as many other health problems. Don't pick the scab when it forms and keep it clean at all costs. Use neosporin to keep it moist and covered.

The best advice I can give you is.......just leave it alone.
It doesn't need a band aid, the only reason the sun make scars look worse is because they don't change colour like your skin will. So the best thing to do is use LOTS of high factor suncream. If you want to look tanned on the big day, FAKE IT!!

Neosporin and vitamin E oil. Cat scratches are easily infected. The vitamin E oil will reduce the scarring.
