i'm a truck driver and we've been getting a bum wrap lately. yesterday while i was asleep my co driver was involved in an accident. i was only bruised and banged up some, but the truck is down and we are a long way from home. the company says they will re imburse me for transportation back. here's the problem, i don't know if i have the nerve to run team any more, but really don't feel up to doing it alone anymore. the guy who caused the whole thing just left. should i keep on trying to make a living driving or just give it up and do what? i don't know anymore and nothing seems real.

my co driver didn't leave. there were three trucks, the one who just stopped in the middle of the road while talking on the phone is the one who caused it all.

only you can make that decision... maybe try for another co-driver... or try it on your own...

Truck Drivers are always in demand everywhere. It's true that the long distance, interstate truckers make more money, but there is a demand for truckers to do local transportation also.
If you enjoyed being a driver, but just don't want to run the long distances, want to settle down in a fixed location, I'd look into a truck driving position locally.

How long have you been a truck driver? Can you be a dispatcher? Can you drive a different kind of truck? I would suggest still being a driver but in a different field, such as bus driver (school, coach, shuttle, metro, public transportation, etc.). Those are all options for you field. It doesn't just have to be a truck driver.

I would think it is time to get out, at least for a while. If you are not comfotable anymore in your primary job position, you need to do something else. Especially since your job is driving 80,000 pounds!
See if there is something else you can do for a while and then reevaluate your feelings towards driving.
Don't know what other skills you have, so I don't have any suggestions on what to tell you.

Go to college, no one is too old to go back to school. If you need assistance you can get financial aid and scholarships or a loan. Make something of yourself and get your head up. Where there are bad days, there are good days. YOU CAN DO THIS. I hope the best for you and God Bless You.

I think you have to enjoy whatever line of work you are in. Adults spend way too much time at work to not enjoy what they do. If you can find a way to enjoy it again, stay with it.
