sure! why not? you should really take a look at the games first and see if you want your kids to be playing those kimnd of games or not. if you don't have a problem with them, then go ahead and get them one. also, the first time kids get something like this, they tend to get addicted, so remember to have "the talk" with them, and schedule how long in a day they're allowed to spend on the Xbox.=)

While I have no problem with such gifts for children, 9 years old is a bit young to be setting a precedent of spending that much on a birth day. Remember, whenever you spend a lot of money on a child, you're setting a standard, in their minds. The more you willingly spend now, the more they'll expect later.
As others have said, though, the gamecube and other consoles would be better suited for that age group....the PS2 and Xbox are geared more towards older teens and adults.

My husband and I bought our 7 year old a game cube. Their game a more geared towards teens as well as smaller kids. My husband has the xbox and there aren't too many games that are geared towards smaller kids teens maybe. And the system is not dead they have plenty of games coming out for it. Plus Nintendo is coming out with a new system after the PS3 comes out. But I would suggest going to a look at the games each systems have at the store and you should decide which is better for your kids. Good Luck

My husband and I try not to give "family" items for one child's birthday because you'll get the "I got it for my birthday so it's mine" argument. I also agree with another answerer that an XBox is a bit much for a birthday present (unless you've always spent $200 on a single gift). We have a PS2 that our children (ages 5, 7, and 10) saved their money to purchase themselves. They saved allowances, spare change, birthday money, etc. for months and when they had enough we took them and their money and bought the game system. They never argue over it because they know everyone worked equally hard to get it. I would suggest giving your 9-year-old a small amount of money for her birthday and tell her it is to help her get started saving for the XBox. Good luck!

No. With the amount of kids that are overweight these days it's better that they are outside. They sit long enough when in school or watching TV. They don't need anything else. Also the games are addictive so what feels like 5 mins turns out to be 1 hour.

My 2 daughters (9 & 10) have wanted an xbox for a couple of years now, and still do not have one. Instead, they get soccer balls or basketballs, new skates, a bike, scooter - whatever will get them outside playing, rather than sitting in the house playing a video game. They play them at friends houses, but we will not get one for our house.

No, not for her birthday. This is why. Little one will say "that's mine", and she is right. Everytime you say, "let Adrianna use it" she'll feel that she has no saying on her ownership (which again she is right).
Get it "just because" or wait til the holydays and make it a present for the both of them, also give them a smaller present for each one.

Do not get them a Game Cube as the first answerer said. That system is more or less dead already. An xbox would be fine for them or maybe a PSP.

Sure, get the XBox, but have a limit to the amount of hours a day they can each use it, and insist on looking at every game before they play it to make sure it's appropriate.

You might want to get it for them at Christmas and mark it for the both of them. But I would get it for them. My kids have had one since my 9 yer old was 2 and we play it just a much. I don't like the XBox controllers for us, but my kids love the PS2
