OK let me tell you this i have/had a German Shepard. lab and chow mixed she is about 11 yr old now she has lost just about all use of her hind legs the vets have said it's normal in big older dogs the options that they will give is expensive sugary which they will not give a guarantee it will even work or get a dog cart which is a a thing that straps on to the dog and holds its back legs up and it has wheels on it so the dog can still walk around it's like a doggy wheelchair recommend a doggy wheelchair more then they do surgery so your best bet is just going and getting a doggy wheelchair / doggy cart

you can call your vet to ask there opinion but most recommend doggy wheelchair specially in older dogs

hope it helped
good luck

10 is pretty old for a shepherd. Probably arthtitis. There are senior foods on the market that contain glucosanine and chondroitin. This may help. If he continues to limp for more than 1 or 2 days call a vet.

I have owned German Shepherds for a very long time and your dog is getting up there in age. Keep your dog lean to keep extra weight off his/her hips and moderate exercise daily. The best exercise is swimming because it doesn't stress the joints. Your vet might prescribe anti-inflammatory meds for your dog and glucosomine can also help. A dog aspirin, which is a buffered aspirin made for a dog's stomach can also help. An aspirin at bedtime will help the stiffness during the night and one in the morning will help during the day. Please make sure the aspirin is for dogs because it can cause problems with their stomach.
I had one shepherd with severe hip displasia and I kept him very thin and watched his exercise level and he lived to be 14. Check with your Vet and follow his instructions so you will have your dog for several more years.

YOu should take this dog to the vet and have it checked for hip dysplasia. If it's not that, the vet can check him out for other causes - it could be something simpler.

Talk to your vet about Degenerative Myelopathy. It is a common disease in German Shepherds.

They are also prone to hip dysplasia. Either way, see your vet.
