Make sure to clean the plates regularly because hair product will start to build up on them and burn or damage the plates or your hair. After each use wipe the plates down with a dry cloth while they're still warm. I do this with my karmin straightener, it's a professional one so I want it to last as long as possible!

Take a slightly damp towel with water on the straightener barrel and it has become warm. BE SURE TO UNPLUG the appliance before cleaning it. Move the cleaning cloth from side to side and up and down before using another cloth to get all grim off of it. Using a cleaner can stripe the nonstick coating on the straightener barrel.

Window cleaner is a good thing to use or even hydrogen peroxide! Also it could make a burnt smell if your hair is wet.

there is probably hair inside of it. I would agree with hydrogen peroxide. but make sure you get all of it off because peroxide can damage your hair.
