im going on holiday in two days time to italy and i dont particularly want to get them mixed up!!! many thanks

The easiest way is just to ask for "il Bagnio" which is pronounced "il banio". That should have you pointed into the right direction, but if you are confused ask for "il bagnio per le donne" which is the womens bathroom or look for the usual skirt wearing icon.
If you step into a bathroom and you see a urinal, then backtrack and pick the next door.
Don't forget that many public bathrooms in Italy are a "hole in the floor" rather than a full toilet. While uncomfortable, this is done for hygienic reasons and ease of cleaning as Italy gets millions and millions of tourists a year and scrubbing a regular toilet would be exhausting.

One says Uomo thats Men, the other says Donne, or Donna, for ladies.

Usually they put the dress for the lady and normal for the man on the door, like in america.

Bagno delle donne e bagno degli uomini but we know English and French so on the door you can see the write toilette or WC

"Tolette Di Mens" is mens toilets
"Tolette Delle Signore" is ladies toilets
