There's numerous academic studies showing that capital punishment does little to lower offending rates or reoffending.

There are arguments to say that once a society gets over the shock of starting to execute its prisoners then it becomes de-sensitised to the issue; then what do the public want in order to punish it's killers?

It's also argued also that the UK is largely a punitive society ie. nothing that the Courts do is enough to satiate the thirst for punishment.

To bring back hanging would end the chances of a minority of already incarcerated offenders reoffending, but being in jail until death would do that also so is there a need for hanging to protect?

Probably raised more questions than answers there!

No what about all the injustices that have been carried out over the years and still go on. There is no certainty remember the guidlford four? the Birmingham Six, Timothy Evans? Plus loads more who have later been found to be innocent. Anyway, in the case of child molesters and rapists, have you never heard of the saying "hangin' s too good for them"? Let them rot in jail for the rest of their lives with minimal privileges.

Yes, and we should allow choice on execution method. I believe hanging is a choice in one or two western states of the US still. Once a person is convicted, there should be enough time for appeal - then the sentence should be executed. Stop putting people into death row for many years. The did the crime, now, execute their penalty.

What, and chop off fingers of thieves, castrate rapists, cut out the tongues of liars? Well, they WOULDN'T do it again, would they?

I've got a nice design in guillotines coming on... might be an entrepeneurial opportunity here...

The death penalty is still in use in many countries, but it does not deter killing/murder.
And once a person is dead they can`t be brought back after new evidence proves them to be innocent!
DNA testing is still not 100% perfect, as has been proved in court recently.

But, LIFE imprisonment, should mean exactly that LIFE! Unless new evidence is presented which proves his/her innocence, then he/she can be released (which would be impossible if he/she is dead!!!)

Of course we should hang those who violate the rules. Remember, rules are there to protect us from ourselves, and those who trample on them willy-nilly should be punished with the utmost severity. I'm typing this with a peg on my nose as the stench coming from the screen is overpowering. It's actually making me physically ill to be answering one of your questions, after your sad parade of sick, pathetic and frankly unfunny questions here on YA.

And while we're at it, people who are brave and principled enough to raise their heads above the parapet of the common herd and actually report the likes of you should be celebrated, not villified. We should gather them at Yahoo Towers and, annointed with precious oils lead them garlanded with fragrant flowers through petal strewn streets whilst choirs sing paeans of praise and adoration to them, instead of being thought of as worthless lickspittles and petty-minded, humourless chunts.
