There is a childrens mouth wash out that the kids use before they brush. It turns the plack on his teeth blue. It helps him to brush better and have fun with the blue color. I'm not sure of the name of it but I know most places have it. I hope that helps.

Have you tried those crest flavored toothpastes?

Offer him a choice. He can either use the toothpaste that HE picks from the store or he can make his own toothpaste. Here are some recipes:
http://www.cosmeticsdiary.com/homemade-toothpaste.htm

Also offer him the choice say: 'you can brush your teeth or I will do it'.

Make a game or a song out of brushing his teeth. This website has some dental activities that you can do with kids to get him excited about brushing his teeth.

Offer him incentives like a sticker chart. This website has some you can print for free:
http://preschoolprintables.com/
Let him pick out the one he wants or the two of you can make one together and let him pick out the stickers for it. When it's full, do something special.

Provide a positive consequence for brushing his teeth-such as a special book or game everytime he does it (in addition to putting his sticker on the chart).

Basically, you want to make him feel empowered-brushing his teeth is something he chooses to do. Gentlely but firmly, tell him, 'these are your choices'. Try not to punish or belittle him or get impatient with him...you don't want him to view teeth brushing as negative since it's something he has to do for the rest of his life.

Establish a routine for brushing his teeth and do not stray from it (if possible). If he knows what to expect before and after he brushes his teeth, then perhaps it won't be so annoying for him. Be consistent, once you discover what works for him.

Good luck!

Let him watch you brush your teeth a couple of times. He shoud catch on quickly! Take him to the store and let him pick out his own tooth brush and toothpaste... My little girl (4 too) didnt like the taste of toothpaste, but when I let her pick out her own ( the same kind I got before) she was fine with it.

My daughter and I have a contest, who ever can brush the blue off of all their teeth the fastest, gets to pick out the bedtime story for the evening.... She wouldn't go near a brush before this.... Lots of fun as well..

I started using the new Listerine product for kids that turns their teeth blue. My kids have to brush until all of the blue is gone or I do it for them. They hate that I brush their teeth.

I also have them use adult toothpaste. My kids like the extra minty taste from Colgate.

Get some of that new blue mouthwash that will turn his teeth blue if there is plaque on them and tell him he has to brush until the blue is gone.

Get him a timer and set it for a certain length of time and tell him he has to brush until the timer goes off.

nicely the place i stay, that's sort of a rule. each and every of our instructors are meant to offer us a definite quantity of homework, so it totals to around 4 hours a evening. yet, i'm 15 and in 9th grade. this is a few distance ridiculous for an 11 year old! i could honestly have a convention with the teachers. she would desire to in hassle-free terms be getting around 2 hours a evening, if that.

Try one of those automatic childrens toothbrushes, it might make it fun.

You can do what I did, show "scary teeth" pics of those who didnt brush! My mom worked in a dental office since I was a kid so I use to have her bring me pamplets to show my kids. Now with the internet its easy to pull up pics of rotten teeth!

Goodluck!

Find something he likes...ALOT,
then tell him, after he brushes his teeth, he can have one of whatever that is.
