I was reading an insert in my newspaper advertising "Extraordinary Uses for Ordinary Things" by Readers Digest. I don't want to buy the book but was wondering if anyone knows how to soothe a tongue after it has been burned. The insert says "Burn your tong on hot pizza, soup, or coffee? This secret stops the pain immediately!" I was wondering if anyone knows the "secret."

I didn't read the article, but I think the "secret" is sugar. Someone told me about it when I was in high school, and I have tried it before it worked for me. If you burn your tongue at a restaurant use the pure sugar packets, pour one packet on your tongue and suck on the sugar. At home I would say maybe a teaspoon or so.

I dont know about the answer in the book but I use cold water and if I have any handy a smooshed up aspirin spread on the burn . Then wait an hour or two the tongue is the fastest healing part of the body. The burn will be gone before you know it.

Probably to drink something very cold immediately. It'll take away the burn feeling and eliminate the swelling from the burn as well.

Use baking soda or corn starch. Always have these items in your home. They do everything from keeping your fridge smelling fresh to putting out a fire.
