Or in other words, why is prayer necessary?

fantastic question. But see God is a fully relational God, meaning he wants you to know him on an intimate level, and wants to know you the same way. Of course he knows what you need, and what you want, but you have to understand, speaking to God is easy, and he created you, loves you and wants to get a great relationship with you, so go for it.
Thanks
Matt

It is my belief that we pray for several reasons. 1. We pray to communicate with God, to come into relationship with Him praising, thanking and worshiping. 2. We intercede for others, knowing that God can control the situation for good if we are in obedience to His word. 3. We pray because the word tells us to "ask and we shall receive." 4. We pray because we are acknowledging the sovereignty of God.
If you are asking "Why pray if God has everything under control, and what is going to be will be?" That is a whole other aspect of the question.

Because prayer is God's ordained means to bring about His purposes. In other words, God is sovereign, and has decided from all eternity that the tomato plant in my garden will grow to a certain height and bear a certain number of tomatoes. However, he has also determined from all eternity that it will grow because I water and fertilize it, it will rain, etc.

I think you are confusing first causes with all causes. Prayer is not a first cause. God is the first cause. But just like God makes a plant grow through other actions He has ordained, He brings about his purposes through prayers that He has ordained. Your prayers have been ordained by God, and in fact, they are the only way that God has planned to bring about his purposes. He has not planned any other way for His purposes to be achieved save through your prayers.

So get prayin'!

To feel closer to God and our Lord Christ. Prayer allows Christians to feel more connected with the King and He is there when we need to confess our sins and be forgiven. He anserws our prayers sometimes even without us knowing they have been anserwd. He is there to comfort us and give us a sense of belonging. He is always there whenever we need Him and He listens to our sorrows and does not judge us when we humbly pray to Him Most High for forgiveness.

Prayer is not "necessary" in that God knows everything and will do what he chooses regardless of prayer. If we ask for something which is not part of his plan, he won't give it to us.

Prayer is "necessary" in that God wants to have a relationship with us.

It states throughout the Bible in both the old and new testament that we are to pray and worship him. Of course he knows what we are going to do before we know it.

Our names are already written in the book and he already knows whether or not we are going to be joining him and his son in Heaven.

Some may say, "well if he already knows if I am going to Heaven or not, what if my name isn't there? I may as well have fun now."

My answer to that is this::::: If you are born again and have asked Jesus to come into your life and have commited your life to serving him and have turned your back on sin, then you WILL definitely be in the book and your mansion in Heaven awaits you.

There is nothing more glorious to God then for us to love him and worship him and no prayer is too big nor too small for him.

God knows we are not equip to handle everything alone. So he wants us to look to him for guidance, instead of conforming to the world. When our life is great, seems alot of people put him on the "backburner", when things go wrong as they sometimes do, all are looking for answers. Prayer and faith are the only ways to communicate. The Holy Spirit lives within. So we speak to him, through this.

If you had a large family and you controlled your house so as that it didn't burn down, or it didn't get broken in to, etc; But, your children didn't care about you, or even acknowledge that you were even there. How would you feel?
To pray is to commune, to talk to, God.

prayer is necessary because that is how we communicate with Him. He is our Heavenly Father, He gives us the very breath in our bodies. He already knows what is wrong and what is right with us, but He still wants to hear from us. Don't you want to know how your kids are doing everyday?

God does not control all events. We have free will.

I pray to discern God's advice for me and to ask for His help on issues. He's my mentor.
