She has heaps of toys, lots of 'outside' time, but she has a continual habit of 'covering her stuff' in the litter tray even if she hasnt used it? Its like she does it for the sake of it everytime she passes it? its driving me mad cos it goes everywhere but more to the point, why does she do it?

Cats are quirky. Some are absolutely obsessive/compulsive about stuff (covering her "stuff"). Some just don't care, you are lucky if they make it to the litter box, let alone, cover their "stuff". Don't worry about it. Buy a covered litterbox for the mess (you will still have some but it is much less).

Try getting a covered tray. Put it in the exact same spot, and see if it helps. She will still use it for potty, but maybe if it is more "out of sight" she might not play in it so much. If she still plays in there, then at least it won't get all over the place. Most cats have quirky habits, and this sounds like your kitty's quirk. Just make sure she isn't ingesting the litter, especially if it is the clumping kind. If you don't know, or if you suspect she is, then switch to a non-clumping for her safety.

Because cat's are selfish and covetous?

No seriously... WHat I like to do with my Pyewacket (My kitten) is I take long sheathes of fabric and slice them up into ribbons, tie it to the back of a chair and take all kinds of bell-balls and little stuffed mice and even empty water bottles and tie them to the ends of the strands. He goes absolutely NUTS for this homemade toy and I never have to be bothered cleaning up the 10,000.00 little tinkle toys all over the house.

Pye used to put them in his carrier, stuffed under the blanket.

Kittens should know instinctively that nothing goes next to the litter box! Not food, not water, not toys. A mother cat shows a kitten this, and how to use a litterbox at a very young age. (for this very reason.

) Unless your cat was kennel trained by having no other choice BUT to go in a box, or self trained. Maybe you need to act like the momma kitty and show her it's not right and give another place ( like a little bed) to hide them under.

When you notice her doing it, gently grab her by the scruff of the neck and remove her and the toy (just like its mother would do) and relocate the toy elsewhere. Somewhere cleaner hopefully!

I just asked this question yesterday and you can look at my answers. The one I chose as best was the suggestion to put an empty tray next to her tray with litter. Put toys in the empty tray and encourage her to play in that. Then try moving the toy tray further and further away. Good luck! I hope it works!

quite interesting, sounds like some kind of ocd and an expencive one for you. probably best bet for you is to not buy her many toys have homemade toys instead that you aren't out a lot of money when she buary's them in her litter box. try giving her straws and balls of wax paper play with string toys with her regularly, just don't leave those out for her when you are not using them.

you might want to call your vet and tell them what's going on and maybe they have some ideas for you.

it relatively is definitely consumer-friendly that kittens eat their muddle. I propose getting a muddle it incredibly is organic and organic until eventually they provide up ingesting their muddle. So their tummy's are not getting upset. they're going to provide up ingesting the muddle quickly. and that i might only circulate away a bowl of kitten food out for them they're going to decide which one is the food. It only takes a sprint time. they are toddlers and that they of course go with to place issues of their mouths. Even nasty stuff. And shop exhibiting them the muddle field. Their instincts will kick in and that they're going to comprehend the place to circulate potty!!

In the wild, cats cover their waste to elude predators. House cats have this same instinct. Maybe your cat is feeling threatened by something and constantly covering her waste makes her feel safer.

She's just eccentric, don't worry about it, she just likes to be clean and prepare the litter for when she wants to use it.

My friend's cat does this. She says he does it just to get attention.
