My grandson was not speaking as early as we thought he should, and I felt that he was not hearing well. They tested his hearing and said it was alright, but it wasn't. He had ear infections constantly, and the tests failed to pick up his hearing loss. You might need to take him to an Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist. (and ENT doctor) Get a second and THIRD opinion if you have to. And to the person who said, "talk to doctors and not us" This parent is already going to doctors, but came here for additional help! Get a clue!

I would ask the school district to come in and do an eval.
The trouble with taking him to your pediatrician is that your doc can only give you 15-20 minutes.
They specialize in medicine.
They can make a guess, and possibly refer you to someone else.
To get in and get tested will take a couple of months (at the least) and that is if your insurance company will pay for testing.
The school district will come in with professionals who know what they are doing, and what they are looking for.
They have the hours of time that it will take for an acurate diagnosis.
They have plenty of experience in this area - and know what they are looking at (ie: autsim, adhd, to name a couple).
Best of all - this is a service that you are already paying for with your taxes, since you are already paying for it why not take advantage of their extensive knowledge?
At 3 years old - IF (and that is a big IF), your son is on the Autsim Disorder Scale (a.k.a. the scale) the earlier intervention happens the better.
They can help with speaking, with eating, and with social skills.
Good Luck!!

i have a two year old with the same problem Atheism is a non communication problem. Where the child cannot socialize or communicate easily with others you need to work with the child and have the child tested for atheism. i have read up on It and dealt with non sever atheism's before in my older children, there are many characteristics of the Authism. there is head banging and temper fits because they can't communicate ther is walking on the tip toes. ignorin you focuing solely on something when many things are going on around them.. They are not at all behind usually except when it comes to reading , writing and speach. they are usually right on target or in some cases way advanced in most all other areas.

Ask the evaluators to evaluate him again. Then ask them for resources. At age three, your school district is your next evaluating resource. Go there next. Don't stop til you get answers. As for the autism, does your child respond to you & others in ways other than speech? Does he make eye contact? How about potty training? Eating problems?

You seriously need to get a brain scan done. My godson talked and stopped talking and he had a tumor which took his life a year later. I don't mean to scare you, but you need to get a scan done IMMEDIATELY. Stop playing around with audiologists and speech therapists and take him the the hospital immediately.

have him ask for things. Dont give him things that he points to. Even if he doesn't say it correctly, encourage him. If it is autism, realize he will still learn just fine, but he needs a comprehensive teaching.

My niece had the same problem. Her parents had her tested and she is autistic. I would encourage other professional opinions from qualified specialists.

be more word specific.....he probably understands everything you say, right? encourage simple words and keep him away from the TV......too many words, too much cluttered info..... i agree that if you r really puzzled here, don't screw around, go to your child's PCP.
