lead is a heavy metal, that can be poisonous in high quantities if eaten or if the dust is breathed.

it used to be an ingredient in paint, but it was outlawed in the early 1970's. Many old houses may still have lead paint inside. Its the dust from the old paint chips that can be harmful.
To get rid of it, you have to strip off the old paint.

Lead can be found in the paint. If the house is older than about 30 years, then some of the paint could have lead in it. You need to hire someone to professionally remove the lead paint otherwise you will end up spreading it all over the house if you do it yourself. Also watch out for little dollar store items like costume jewellry because sometimes these companies like to produce something even more cheaply despite it being toxic. If an item feels heavier than it looks like it should, then it probably contains lead.

Lead is a metal that was used in paints a long time ago.
Unless you have a very old house, or a very old painted crib & you have a child who chews on anything painted, you probably don't have to worry if you have a newer house, & a fairly new crib.
