i took them to the vets this morning (Monday 14th Aug) and was advised to use stronghold i put this on both of them, i am just worried that them being in the house for 24 hours untreated the fleas may have layed eggs, they have only been in the downstairs of my house as they can not get up stairs. It's laminate flooring downstairs with a rug should i be worried and do something or am i over reacting?

I wouldn't be too worried about it, but i had the same problem. I got a kitten like a month ago and it also had fleas so i took him to the vet. The man told me just to be sure he would get this white spray bottle called flea and tick spray. It worked!! But if you do get it then i would be worried about the rug because i have carpet in my house and that's where the man told me they would be.

Hopefully that helped you!

Congrats on your new "family." I too have 2 cats, never had fleas tho. But have always read that fleas only go to "host" / cat / animal to feed and actually live in the carpet. Don't rightly know if this is true but to be on the safe side I would also find a powder to sprinkle on your area rug to kill the fleas and larvae they may have infested it with. Please to call your vet for proper advice.

or call 1 800 petmeds

The cats will capture any loose fleas in the house and they will die off quickly (the fleas that is)

A tea tree oil added shampoo would be great but the kits would think they're being tortured.

For me you should do something. If it would take very long it would spread in the house. i advise you to buy some flea powder or flea shampoo to kill the fleas and to separate your kittens so the other won't catch it and to disinfect your house.
