Communism has always been the strive to overcome the distinction between rich and poor. Religion perpetuates the distinction. Communism is about helping the group. Religion is about getting your own backside into heaven.
Religion has nothing to do with communism. Communism, and its brother atheism, are much, much superior morally to religion.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that the Communists in the old USSR (and in China and North Korea today) are/were atheists. And you see how much freedom their atheism brought them.
So no. Atheism is not the answer, because atheists have an agenda too.

No. Religious individuals and groups have the ability to reason and so answer questions from [a less ideological perspective]. Not all religious adherents think only within the parameters of their faith.

Religions bent on fascism could well prove to be just as repressive and oppressive as the atheistic communist regimes.
Religions spend a lot of time infighting and disagreeing on minucia.. What is happening in the middle east is demonization of Israel and the US by the dictators of muslim countries.. Using religion as a justification for murder and terror they will press their cause until stopped. I don't think religion in and of itself is bad, in fact it give purpose to many people. However, when individuals incite masses into a "groupthink" mentality it can make Jim Jones's Guyana slaughter look like a pin prick.

Hmmm,
May depend on which Religion you are talking about.
I don't see my fellow Catholics wanting to dominate the world, do away with free elections or force people to believe as we do.
Atheism is fine for our government, and as long as it includes freedom for me to worship as I wish as long as I am not hurting others, I have no problem with it!
Peace!

No and no. How is an atheistic viewpoint any less ideological than a theistic viewpoint?

As you can see, religious people and atheists are looking for the same thing.
