I really wonder why such a question has come out in this column ?
There have been instances and court cases where the doctors and the hospitals were fined for showing discrimination to the HIV affected persons. This includes refusal for treatment and indifferent attitude to these poor patients.
After all, without HIV infection itself, so many thousands of people out there are suffering due to discrimination both racial and financial !
I mean the people working in outside countries...ask them what is discrimination and they will tell you..
Hence treat these HIV infected patients as they are...but protect yourself...okay ?
all the best and take care !

PEOPLE SUFFERING FROM HIV MAY NOT NECESSARILY HAVE AIDS.
A PERSON SUFFERING FROM HIV MAY ACTUALLY GO ON TO LIVE FOR MORE THAN 30 YEARS .
ALSO, A PERSON SUFFERING FROM HIV MAY NOT DIE IMMEDIATELY,WHEREAS PEOPLE SUFFERING FROM HEART AILMENTS,KIDNEY FAILURE,STROKE,DIABETES,EVEN MALARIA--MAY HAVE A SUDDEN DEATH.
THE IDEA BEHIND INFORMING YOU ABOUT ALL THIS IS THAT HIV IS NOT AS DEADLY AS MOST OTHER DISEASES.THE ONLY CONCERN IS THAT ITS ALMOST INCURABLE AT PRESENT, BUT THE PERSON SUFFERING CAN PREVENT ITS FURTHER SPREAD IN THE BODY BY SUITABLE MEDICATIONS,GOOD LIFESTYLE,DIET AND YOGA.
ALSO,IT IS NOT INFECTIOUS.
SO YOU CAN ACTUALLY TREAT AN HIV SUFFERING PERSON JUST LIKE ANY OTHER HUMAN BEING.

How would you talk to someone without a disease? If you acted different around me I would be seriously hurt. I really think everyone should be treated the same, whether they're in a wheelchair, or they have diabetes, they are people too. I know a girl with diabetes and she acts just like you or me. She doesn't like to get pity from other people and if you give it to her she probably would knock you into the next century. They need people to treat them the same as you did before you knew about their suffering.

Normally. They are people 2 and they have feelings and...we should take care of them without them noticing couse they'll die and we aren't going to see them again....Every man or woman suffering of an illness should be treated with love and affection couse they are people 2.That's what I think...

It would depend on: Is this person a stranger , family or friend? If they are strangers, you should be careful, but family & friends should be treated as family & friends.
I did know how I should treat my brother in law that died of AIDS. I treated him was with lots of love and I used every one of my nursing skills on him to better his short life. I also talked to my very young kids about his death & his illness.
Both openly & honestly.

Their HIV shouldn't affect the way you treat them. Would you treat a cancer patient any different?

just be yourself and treat them with respect as they have feelings too. by treating them as you would treat anyone else it gives them a sense of belonging which they desperately need.
