I actually got a reason to ask this question, which I will reveal later!

And before any one starts complaining that the question is in the wrong category... its not! (be patient!)

As in, some ones coming to attack you.....

Do you just accept to be attacked or do u fight back in self-defence?

2006-08-14 03:14:45 · update #1

A lot of you are saying fight back.

This thing on terror.... Why is every one jumping to conclusions about the "terrorists"? All I am saying is they must have a reason for their action. Evey one has a reason for doing something. Did you ever think about it from their point of view? They were probably fed up with the attack on Islam. And they are doing all this in self defence. Did any one think about it this way?

Attacked... sexually, verbally, physically? By a man or a woman, how old?
If it was a man I would SING for all but the verbally one (Stomach, Instep, Nose, Groan) and if it was the berbally one I would verbally attack back or ignore.
I would call the police afterwards.
If it was a women then I guess I dunno what I'd do especially the sexually part =S

Self defense all the way, I would not just let it happen... are you saying that is wrong? (Not saying it patronisingly by the way, you can't tell over the internet)

If somebody approached me to attack me I'd like to think I wouldd be able to defend myself or if I had a chance - run. More importantly I'd like to think that I woul never leave myself vulnerable although I know that's not possible all the time.

Just read your reason for asking this question about whether you'd defend yourself if somebody attacked you. I'm really sorry but you can't compare defending yourself against a mugger or rapist with the people who are alleged to have plotted to blow up planes. The people who would be killed in such a horrific attack would be innocent - they've done absolutely nothing to terrorists so how can the terrorists be acting in self defence. I appreciate that maybe these people may have some issues - don't we all get angry and annoyed at things but I contain my frustration or act rationally and legally to make changes - not doing something so mindless and reckless such as killing the innocent. I can't agree with you at all on this and think it was a silly way of trying to get people to see your side by asking an ambiguous question in the first place.

verbal or physical? ok, I'm glad you added that.

I've been trained in self-defense, I would definitely defend myself. However, you match force for force, the only time that you would try to hurt the attacker is if you feel your life is in jeopardy. The point is to get away, not to kill them.

Now you are talking about terrorists and war. Apples and oranges, honey. If you are in a dark parking lot and someone is trying to hurt you, do you honestly think that turning the other cheek, or dropping to your knees will stop it? God gave you a brain and free will for a reason. Get out of the situation anyway you can.
Someone flying planes into buildings is not a self-defense. That is an attack, or if it is the way you are looking at it, a counter-attack. Not the same thing at all.
If someone is verbally attacking my religion, and they will not sit down to reasonably talk about it, then walk away. There is always the alternative of negotiation.
Now, one more point, since you brought it up. The majority of Muslims are peaceful people, and have nothing to do with the extremists that are responsible for the terrorist attacks. There are extremists in every religion, so it is not exclusive to Islam. Read, study, learn more about what you are trying to talk about.

first and always smartest reaction= run
Do not engage in combat if you are not 100% certain that you will come out victorious
asess your situation carefully how many attackers are there; where are you that is to say where can you move and where are you blocked by walls or other obstructions. Are they armed
try to get help if you can
If you are facing a group best reaction is to try to grab one opponent and threaten the rest.(e.g. if you try anything i'll do very bad things to your friend)
last but not least if no other alternative let them come avoid whatever is coming to you (punch kick stab) and then work your opponent down and kick his a**
As I said before the most sensible thing is always to run if you are uncertain. fighting must always be your last way out.
I practice martial arts and alwasy avoid a fight if I can

i had no clue whether to what u were talking about but now that u've added those additional details i know. i do not agree with terrorist acts whether they r muslims or americans or whatever. terrorism is unacceptable even if there is a cause of it. if ur adolescent child died in one of those attacks after all your hard work i think your opinion about this matter would b diffrent. to sum it up: terrorism of any form is unacceptable and God will put an end to this situation (Psalms 37:9-11). until then, we cannot do much about the situation.

I would immediately do an animal attack on them, coz it is a shock and awe tactic, if you suddenly start acting like a mentalist and flailing your arms everywhere, they will either run off thru being scared, laugh at you, or still kick your face in.
Either way, it gives two more options to the attacker.
Giving you only a one in three chance of getting beaten up.
Which is much better than a hundred persent chance of being beaten up.

I would first try to find out or figure out why the attacker is attacking me. If I belive I can reason with him I will stand there and reason with him. If I belive he is being controlled by something else and will not be reasonable I will remove myself from my current place and remain in hiding till the person gets back to his state of being reasonable and then reason with him.
Self defense is not wrong. But Self defense can have 2 results. You may fail or You may win. In either case things do not get resolved as it will just spark more violence.

Do you trust in God?
Do you think your God has power to save you?
Do you think that others have equal rights to live in this world?
Can you treat others as equal beings and respect them so?

Islam does not allow any of these characters - that is the problem in the present world.

Islam has principles in Quran but no one practice it. Just come to Middle East and see the rules in the most honoured Islamic countries, you will realise it.

If Jews are allowed to peacefully live in their land, there will be peace in the nearby countries like Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and so on.

I've told my family for years that it is my sincere hope that if anyone were ever to attempt to attack physically me that I would drop to my knees and start praying in the spirit and in truth. I hope I would do that and trust God would bring His will to pass. It might sound strange, but in the Bible you never once find Christ's followers engaging in physical fighting to stop an attack when walking in obedience. They counter-attack with prayer. That is my thought on this matter.
