Hi, I have a 13yr. old son. I would like to say its you’re hair have it anyway you want, you are old enough. (Clean of course though) Anyways I’ve tried this for about a year. But, I’ve got to say, he doesn’t have a clue! He wanted it kinda long skater style. We let it grown out. But, when we went to the hair salon to get it shaped up after it grew out, he didn’t know how to explain what it’s supposed to be cut like. When we were done and 18 bucks later it looked almost exactly the same! Now, I know he was going for the messy longer look but this had no shape or style to it at all. Even he said "no that’s not really what I wanted" when we got home. Although he didn’t really care as long as his hair was "shaggy" I’ve seen kids with longer skater hair. It wasn’t a mess. But I don’t know how to describe it to a stylist. And neither can he. I cant find anything online that show teen guy cuts. Only women & men. I don’t want to take a mom power trip & cut it all off. But, by now I want to. Any ideas?

I forgot to add, sallons dont have very updated "teen guy" pictures. As a matter of fact, they dont have any. They have a huge selection of books but most are outdated. And they are only little boys and girls and grown ups. No teen guys. Also, what kind of magazine? I cant find a picture! lol geeeeeez schools starting soon! Hes a mess!

Not every stylist knows how to do those styles. You or he needs to ask around to find out who cuts the other skaters' hair, then have him look through skater and music magazines to find what he wants and take that in to one of those stylists to show what he wants. OR, instead of a magazine, if he has a friend who has a similar style to what he wants, he could bring the friend along and tell the stylist, "I want my hair almost like his, but a little shorter here, a little longer there and more shaggy layers through here."

As a hair dresser for many years I check into the different trends of my teenagers. It is time he has his own stylist. If skating is his theme then together you need to go to a Tony Hawk web site or something of the like. Describing a picture is the hardest thing, especially for a boy teenager. A picture is worth a thousand words. Today there are "trendy" and very "edgy" hair salons. These may charge more but it would be money well spent if you have already wasted 18 dollars. Good luck......Just from the sounds of it it sounds like he needs texture cut into his hair with notching shears.

It would be helpful if you and/or your son have pictures of people from photographs, magazines or create drawings of what the hair style (from different views) should look like should help the hair stylist.

In my view the best way is that when you see a guy having the haircut your son wants, just go and ask that guy where he got his hair done. Go to the same salon and your problem is solved. Better still take a pic of that guy's hair and if possible ask him the hair dresser's name.
It will definately work for you.
Cheers

a thank you to get your toddler to decrease his hair is to tell him you are going to run errands and get his hair decrease on the way. regardless of if, i propose you to not stress him to get his hair decrease. in case you do, you're dropping an hazard for a coaching 2nd with your toddler. in case you thoroughly (yet not melodramatically) backtrack from the subject, he will learn the outcomes for his very own movements. If activities at school are contingent on shorter hair, he will ought to make his very own determination. Your son won't continuously look suitable; that's an hazard to instruct to him that your love for him is likewise not contingent on how a lot you like his visual attraction. quickly sufficient he will ought to regulate his visual attraction to tournament others; employers, for specific. that's the time whilst he's meant to have documented style mess ups! enable him, and take great evaluate regards to the coaching moments interior the minor battles.

I'm sure that you know all salons have books with men's styles. Have him look through these and pick one he likes. He can even show the stylist something he likes and add his own special "look" to it.
