The person who comes up with artifical photosynthesis will save the world.
Artificial photosynthesis will be able to copy many of the processess of plants, and perform it with controlled engineering. It will be able to remove CO2 from the atmosphere and convert it to hydrocarbons and oxygen. In this way it will be used to reduce the amount of CO2 placed in the atmosphere from burning fossil fuels. It will reduce green house gases and end global warming.
Artifical photosynthesis will be used to produce hydrocarbons including cellulose which will be used in lumber industries, however the type artificial photosynthesis will make will also incorporate some plastics imbedded in the cellulose rendering it unsuitable for termites. This wood will replace all the need for deforestation, and save the no-longer-valuable tropical woods of the rain forests.
Artificial photosynthesis will utilize the process in photosystem 1 to break down water molecules to hydrogen and oxygen. It will be the main supplier to getting us on the hydrogen economy. Imagine automobiles running on artificial photosynthesis. As they drive about they are sucking in water vapor and running on hydrogen! Why they'll look like they're running on air.
There are many applications to artificial photosynthesis, and one thing is certain - it will save the world. The world will not be the same. Limitless food, energy, resources, all from artificial photosynthesis... Now go out and reverse engineer nature!
