Hi, does anyone know whether it would be wiser to take Sri Lankan rupees or US dollars to spend in Sri Lanka? We have had conflicting opinions on this! Thanks.

Hi, you cannot get Sri Lankan rupees over the counter from exchange places or banks in the Uk, & dont take Dollars as i did this once on my first trip there & lost loads on echange in SRI LANKA, you are better off taking Sterling, as the Sri lankans prefer our money & you will get a better exchange rate at their banks, what part are you going to.

Well its better to take $ or Pound... the rate of exchange for a dollar is SLR 96 so if you change 100$ you get around 9600 Srilankan Rupees... so you decide... and shopping is dirt cheap so you please decide for your self...

Been there - a shotgun would be most preferable. But if you wont take that, take the local currency and not the dollar as they'll always screw you on the exchange rate but it's easier in dollars. I'm sticking with the shotgun

Take US $ - you can get them converted at the airport or other exchanges located at convenient places.
